Rio Ferdinand comments on Arsenal’s reported interest in Real Madrid attacker

Rio Ferdinand has discussed Arsenal’s reported interest in Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic and although he believes the Serbian ace can add to Arsenal – he reckons the Gunners are targeting the wrong types of players.

Jovic, 22, is renowned for his stunning 2018-19 form while on loan at German club Eintracht Frankfurt. He netted an enormous 27 goals in 48 league and cup appearances as well as laying on seven assists. He scored 10 in 14 Europa League outings.

Now, Arsenal are keen to sign Jovic – who cost Real £55million () – if the Spanish club are willing to loan him out. The report also claims both Tottenham and Chelsea want to sign the forward.

Ferdinand discussed the rumours that Arsenal are interested in landing Jovic, and stated that although he would add to the north London club – he does not believe The Gunners should be going after a striker, and suggested signing a centre-back.

“Done nothing in a Real Madrid shirt. The potential he showed at Frankfurt, he was highly thought of. It doesn’t always go to plan. He can add to Arsenal – but I don’t believe Arsenal need a striker. They need centre-halves,” Ferdinand said.

TBR’s view – Should Arsenal sign Jovic?

Losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be an enormous blow for Arsenal given he is guaranteed to score at least 20 goals a season. But, with the Gunners struggling to obtain Champions League football, it is a possibility.

So, shortlisting a replacement is crucial and if Jovic is available, bringing him in as a replacement would be excellent business. Alexandre Lacazette, though, would not be impressed.
