Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch laud Liverpool star Sadio Mane

Rio Ferdinand that Sadio Mane is his favourite of the Liverpool attackers following the Reds’ latest Champions League win, while Peter Crouch labelled the forward a joy to watch.

Jurgen Klopp’s men now have one foot in the knockout stages of the competition following their performance on Tuesday night. They went to Italy and thrashed Atalanta 5-0 to continue their flawless start to the group.

Diogo Jota will steal many of the headlines following an outstanding hat-trick. But Mane also got on the scoresheet with a brilliant finish. He also provided an audacious assist for Jota’s third goal with a delicious pass with the outside of the boot.

That prompted Crouch and Ferdinand to wax lyrical about his performance following the win.

“He’s a joy to watch,” . “We had a discussion on who do you take? I think round the households through the country, it’s who do you take: Mane and Salah at the moment?

“What a finish. He’s running full pelt on his left foot. He’s wide of the six-yard box and he still manages to dink it over him. It’s fantastic.”

“Do you know what I like about him? He makes difficult situations look easy,” Ferdinand added. “He does that as well as anybody . Some of the things he does in the match, you think: ‘how has he done that and looked so calm and cool and collected in that situation? He’s my favourite.”

As Crouch suggests, it is really difficult to make a strong case for either Salah or Mane being the better player because they are both undeniably world-class.

What is particularly frightening is the pair’s longevity. Mane has now scored 86 goals for the club since 2016. Meanwhile, his teammate brought up his century for the Reds earlier this season.

And most worryingly for their rivals, it would appear that both are at an age where they may just about be approaching their peaks.

There certainly looks to be plenty more to come.
