Richie Wellens reacts to Leeds loanee Robbie Gotts’ display
Richie Wellens has suggested that Leeds United loanee Robbie Gotts has a real chance to go all the way to the top following his latest display for Salford City – .
It has been an interesting season for Gotts. His time at Lincoln City had highlights. But he struggled to force his way into the starting lineup on a consistent basis.

He dropped down a division to join Salford in January. And the early signs suggest that that move will prove to be inspired.
The 21-year-old has scored two goals in his first four appearances for the League Two side. And following his latest goal, Wellens offered an assessment of the youngster that will be music to every Leeds fan’s ears.

“On the press he is excellent, a typical [Marcelo] Bielsa player. His passing is good, he’s scored two in three for us and could have had more. He is a really good, infectious lad who the group has taken to straight away,” he said, .
“We are going to improve him for free, that’s why Leeds have loaned him to us. We think he has a real chance to go all the way.”
TBR View: Gotts’ future looks bright
Gotts is arguably the player out on loan with the brightest prospects at Elland Road. Marcelo Bielsa regularly named in his match day squads during his first two campaigns.
And the Leeds boss felt that he was good enough to make a first-team debut when the then-Championship promotion-chasers took on Arsenal in the FA Cup.
It is fair to say that Gotts did not look out of place on that stage by any means. But it was obviously felt in the summer that a loan move would help him take that next step in his career.
The initial spell probably did not do him as many favours as Leeds hoped. But the initial signs hint that sending him to Salford is going to prove a lot more fruitful for all parties.
