Richard Keys slams Jamie Carragher for ‘unforgivable’ comment about Mohamed Salah after 2-0 Liverpool win

Mohamed Salah made more headlines for Liverpool on Sunday.

The Egypt international scored and assisted in yet another Premier League game – the 11th time he has done so this season – to make it 25 goals and 16 assists in England’s top flight this term, in just 27 appearances.

When eulogising over the Liverpool No.11 on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, Daniel Sturridge and Roy Keane ended up discussing his chances of winning a Ballon d’Or.

Quite naively, Carragher quipped that Mohamed Salah had never played in a major international tournament – scoffing when the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was put to him in response – a moment which Richard Keys has now reacted to.

Richard Keys lays into Jamie Carragher for AFCON remark

In case you missed it, the man from Bootle told Sky Sports: “I think the problem (is) the fact he’s with Egypt, and he’s probably not playing in the major tournament as such or maybe got a great chance of winning.”

Carragher replied “oh my God” and scoffed when Richards rightly called him out on that comment, and Keys has now weighed in when writing on his .

The beIN SPORTS pundit said: “Never mind the PL’s (Premier League) best ever – Mo Salah might just be Liverpool’s best ever – despite the fact he’s never played in a big tournament. Seriously. What ignorance. Unforgivable ignorance.

“Time and again down the years I’ve referenced the arrogance of so-called experts that live and work within the borders of the U.K. who think nothing beyond their territory matters.”

Mohamed Salah should be furious

Keys is spot on.

Carragher – who thinks Antoine Semenyo could replace Salah – was out of line to look down on AFCON in this manner.

After all, Salah, who Luis Diaz called a machine, cannot help the fact he is African – the Liverpool No.11 has no way whatsoever to appear at the Euros or the Copa America, and Egypt will always struggle to win the World Cup, so why should the quality of AFCON be used against him?

It is absolutely a major tournament – without a shadow of a doubt.
