Richard Hughes should hijack Man City’s move to sign £100m player who’s simply perfect for Liverpool

From Liverpool’s point of view, their latest 3-1 defeat against Chelsea should not be a result that generates much discourse within their camp.

Instead, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes should shift their attention towards the summer transfer window as the Reds’ focus should now be on trying to win the Premier League title as well as pushing to lift the Champions League trophy next season.

But the only potential headscratcher for Liverpool is that they have one of the best squads in world football, which makes it challenging to improve their current roster of players.

However, Arne Slot would like to sign Milos Kerkez in the summer as an upgrade on Kostas Tsimikas — which shows that even the higher-ups at Anfield believe there are areas where their squad can be enhanced.

Similarly, Liverpool are interested in signing Morgan Gibbs-White alongside other Premier League giants like Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool should sign Morgan Gibbs-White in the summer

Gibbs-White is valued at £100 million and while it is worth debating whether Liverpool should pay such a sizable fee to secure his services, it is indisputable why he would be an excellent fit under Arne Slot.

Morgan Gibbs-White fits Liverpool’s ideal profile of midfielder, whether it be under Slot or even Jurgen Klopp: technically gifted, a supreme athlete and tactically versatile.

The Englishman, who has largely played as a number 10 for Nottingham Forest this campaign has managed to register five goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season as well — despite playing in a system that is mostly built on sacrificing possession to hurt teams on the break.

While Arne Slot loves Dominik Szoboszlai, he has less goal contributions (five goals and five assists) in the league than Gibbs White despite playing in the same position — with the latter likely to hit new levels in a superior Liverpool side.

Capable of doing a job in central midfield as well, the 24-year-old could provide adequate cover for the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones if Richard Hughes snaps him up.

One area where Gibbs-White distinguishes himself from Liverpool’s batch of midfielders is that he is well and truly a special carrier of the ball — as was evidenced as he started and finished off his goal against Wolves in Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 win at the Molineux Stadium.

Gibbs-White is a brilliant player and considering he is more creative than Szoboszlai, he could potentially prove to the perfect upgrade on him, if not just serving as a tailor-made alternative to the Hungarian.

Does Morgan Gibbs-White want to leave Nottingham Forest?

Usually, when the Reds come knocking, it is hard to most players to turn their back on their interest.

The good news for Liverpool is that Gibbs-White is open to leaving Nottingham Forest this summer.

However, it seems like Arne Slot’s side will especially face competition from Manchester City for his signature as he is one of their “priority targets” in the summer transfer window — according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano revealed on Sunday: “Manchester City plan to advance on Morgan Gibbs-White deal in the next weeks as he remains one of the priority targets.”

“No issues are expected on personal terms but work to do with Nottingham Forest as they still hope to keep MGW.”

But considering Liverpool have won the league while Manchester City have declined this season, they would have an advantage in the race to sign Gibbs-White if they stepped their interest up.
