The international uncertainty regarding Declan Rice is a positive for West Ham
Declan Rice has been left out of the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. The teenager is considering whether to switch allegiances to England, as he remains eligible for both nations.
It is unsurprising that there is interest in the versatile player, as he has been one of the standout players at West Ham United this season.
He has started in four of their Premier League matches and his recall coincided with the upturn in form. Rice returned to the team against Everton and the Hammers have taken seven points since that game.

Although he is versatile, Rice has been operating as a central midfielder to great effect under Manuel Pellegrini. Against Chelsea, he made an impressive five ball recoveries and offered protection to the defence.
West Ham have a great tradition for bringing through young players and Rice is the latest example of that. He is likely to go from strength-to-strength over the coming season.
The uncertainty over his international future hasn’t affected his on-field performances. In fact, it can be argued that it is a positive for West Ham as he is fully focused on club affairs.
