Rhian Brewster suggests Klopp could use ‘amazing’ Liverpool in a completely new role going forward
Rhian Brewster has been speaking about his all-time XI of players played with and has suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold in a different role for Liverpool.
Brewster is now at Sheffield United following a mega-money move in 2020. However, he broke through with Liverpool and played alongside some players who are now thriving at first-team level under Jurgen Klopp.
Of course, picking an XI of players he’s played with was always going to include some of those ex-Liverpool teammates somewhere. And while Brewster did indeed select a few, he suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold could actually be used somewhere else than right-back in his team.
“Right back, I’ve gone for Trent. Very good, you guys can see what he can do with a ball. Amazing crosser of a ball. To be fair though, when I played with him when he was younger, he didn’t play right-back. He played holding midfield, so that’s probably why he’s good good at passing,” Brewster told the .
“To be fair, I played with Trent when he was holding midfield, so I’m going to go with Reece James at right-back. I’m gonna put Trent in the holding midfield. Just spraying the ball for me.”
Of course, it’s been spoken about in the past how Alexander-Arnold could eventually move into midfield. And given Brewster’s glowing reference here, it might be something that Liverpool considers in the long-term.
TBR’s View: Trent Alexander-Arnold In Midfield Can Happen For Liverpool
As things stand, there is no need for Alexander-Arnold to move into the midfield for Liverpool. But down the line, this must be something Jurgen Klopp is thinking about.
Of course, it’s a different game in midfield. Trent might not get the space he does at right-back to pick those passes he does. But he’s also a technically sound player, and could also do the job nicely.
Liverpool fans will probably see this one day. Alexander-Arnold in midfield is not the worst idea ever, and Rhian Brewster has obviously seen it before too.
