Rhian Brewster and two other Liverpool wonderkids who could make breakthrough this season
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the ideal example for any young Liverpool player to aspire to. Alexander-Arnold worked hard and went straight from the academy to the first-team. In a short space of time, he nailed down a starting Reds spot, a place in the England squad and has become a key player.
Jurgen Klopp will be looking for the ‘next Alexander-Arnold’ to come through the academy and spring a surprise. Here are three Liverpool youngsters who have a chance of breaking into the side this season.
Rhian Brewster
Rhian Brewster is still recovering from a long-term injury that has held back his progress. But he was prolific in pre-season and Klopp is a massive fan. Once his fitness is completely back, the England U21 starlet will be pushing for first-team spots.
Now that Daniel Sturridge has left, there is a vacancy to be Liverpool’s premier back-up striker. Klopp knows that the 19-year-old can score goals so he could give him chances when he starts to rotate his squad.
Harvey Elliott
Harvey Elliott signed for Liverpool this summer as one for the future but has already been heavily involved in first-team training. It is clear that Klopp believes the England U17 starlet is ready to be integrated into the senior set-up.
Despite his young age, the 16-year-old already has some first-team experience from his time with Fulham. When Klopp is looking to rotate his squad to keep them fresh, Elliott will be hoping for a run-out on the wing.
Yasser Larouci
Liverpool lost Alberto Moreno in the summer and they do not have a senior back-up option to Andrew Robertson. This could open the door for Yasser Larouci (or Adam Lewis) to step into the limelight.
The 18-year-old was a key part of Klopp’s pre-season plans so he is clearly an option for the Merseyside club. The Algerian left-back might be used to keep Robertson in top condition.
