Republic of Ireland fans react to performance of West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph

The Republic of Ireland saw their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 evaporate after a penalty shootout defeat to Slovakia – and supporters were quick to discuss West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph on Twitter.

A 0-0 draw for Stephen Kenny’s men took the game to penalties but a 4-2 defeat ensured elimination.

Randolph was unable to produce the goods during the shootout, although his performance did catch the eye on the night.

Some wasteful finishing cost Ireland the chance of a mouthwatering play-off final against Northern Ireland, whilst they didn’t get the rub of the green either.

Two of the European Championship games will take place at the Aviva Stadium but for the Republic of Ireland they will watch on with envy.

Randolph, 33, signed for West Ham from Middlesbrough for in January and is second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski.

Randolph has played in all three Carabao Cup games this season, including in the 4-1 defeat to Everton at the end of last month.

The goalkeeper collected the 45th cap of his career against Slovakia last night and he’s very much considered the first choice on the international stage.

Ireland fans were quick to react on Twitter to his performance last night and here is a selection of Tweets from the contingent of supporters.
