Reportedly available for £14m, Aston Villa should move for England international
A whirlwind few days saw Aston Villa gain promotion to the Premier League last Monday by earning a Championship play-off final win over Derby County – and work in the transfer window must begin immediately.
Dean Smith’s immediate focus will be to make a number of his loan stars permanent Aston Villa players. Tyrone Mings was crucial for Villa, and some outlets are claiming he will cost £15million from Bournemouth.
Anwar El Ghazi starred on loan from French club Lille, while Tammy Abraham top scored in the Championship during his loan spell at Villa Park from Chelsea. But the latter looks less likely to move permanently.
However, even if Aston Villa complete the signing of El Ghazi on a permanent basis, Smith will still be pretty light on the flanks after Albert Adomah was released by the club on a free transfer this summer.
Adomah was one of eight players released, and it leaves the Midlands club are without many options out wide. El Ghazi signed or not, Villa have to move for a proven top-flight winger – and that should be Andros Townsend.
Leicester City are interested in the 27-year-old England international, with Palace willing to offload the former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United star for £14million.
Townsend shone for Palace this season. He scored nine goals and created six more in 45 outings, and even won the Premier League goal of the season award for his incredible volley against champions Manchester City.
The winger has 185 matches of Premier League experience, and consistently shows he can score and create goals. At £14million, he is an excellent purchase and Villa have got to lure the 13-time England star to the Midlands.
