Reported Tottenham target Jerome Boateng previously called Jose Mourinho interest ‘an honour’

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a potential move for German veteran Jerome Boateng next summer, when the Bayern Munich man will be available on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old has reportedly signalled his intention to Bayern Munich that he will not be signing an extension at the club and, that has alerted Jose Mourinho to his availability.

Whilst it may not be a popular move by fans, it is no surprise that the Spurs boss might be taking a keen interest in Boateng.

He has been heavily linked with a move for Boateng before, namely when he was in charge at Manchester United.

In fact, the German would seemingly be up for the idea of working with the Portuguese as well.

Back in the summer of 2018 Mourinho desperately wanted an experienced defender to reinforce his back-line at United and Boateng soon became an option.

However, as Boateng explained at the time, he simply did not want to leave Bayern.

“I had enquiries from PSG and Manchester United,” Boateng . “I did not want just to get away from Bayern but I was thrilled to try a new challenge. I feel well at Bayern, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“I called Jose Mourinho. I told him that his interest was an honour for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me. I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern and, if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club.”

That scenario seems to have changed, with Boateng now ready to take on a new challenge and Tottenham would certainly provide him with that.

On this occasion, the honour of getting a chance to work with Mourinho might be responded to favourably.
