Reported Newcastle target Juan Mata closing in on new Manchester United contract
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is moving closer to a new contract at Old Trafford,
They that the 31-year-old Spaniard, whose current deal runs out at the end of the month – worth a whopping £160,000-a-week according to – is on the verge of extending for another season.
Last month, Newcastle United with an ambitious swoop for the midfielder, who worked with Magpies manager Rafa Benitez when they were together at Valencia and Chelsea.
That would have been a swoop to get pulses racing on Tyneside but Mata now looks set to snub those advances and remain at Old Trafford.

Mata is a hugely experienced Premier League performer but looks to have lost his way at United, often asked to play out on the right hand side because of the Red Devils lack of other options.
That’s not his game – he’s a central playmaker who can get goals and assists and would have been the perfect mentor for Miguel Almiron if the duo linked up in the north east.
And while the uncertainty has reigned at Newcastle, it appears that Mata has been sorting out his future at Old Trafford, leaving Newcastle to look elsewhere.
