Reported Leeds target Julen Lopetegui wanted Rodrigo at Real Madrid in 2018
that Julen Lopetegui will be on Leeds United’s radar when the day comes for the Whites to consider Marcelo Bielsa’s successor.
The Elland Road faithful will be hoping that it is not a situation the club need to confront for some time. But it is arguably smart for those working behind the scenes to consider their potential options.

Should Leeds continue to make progress under Bielsa, the next appointment will be pivotal. And Lopetegui does represent a name with significant stature in the game.
The 54-year-old has taken some of the biggest jobs in Europe, taking the Real Madrid post after leaving as Spain boss two years ago.
And it was while at the Bernabeu that Lopetegui reportedly targeted a current member of Bielsa’s squad.

, Lopetegui wanted to sign Rodrigo from Valencia. At the time, the forward boasted a release clause worth around €120 million (£107 million).
It was during Lopetegui’s time in charge of the national team that Rodrigo returned to the Spain fold after making his debut in 2014.
And he had previously played under his countryman at under-21 level. Rodrigo boasted a remarkable record at that level, scoring 15 times in just 16 games.
Of course, a move would not take place. And Rodrigo would leave Los Che for Leeds this year. , he earns around £57,000-a-week.
Meanwhile, Lopetegui would not remain at the Bernabeu for much longer.
But perhaps there may be an opportunity for the pair to work together at Elland Road should Leeds have to consider a replacement for Bielsa much sooner than anyone would currently like.
