Reported £50m-plus Newcastle target Joelinton is not even Hoffenheim’s top forward
In one of the stranger news stories to break this weekend, Newcastle United have been linked with a move that would smash their current transfer record.
Newcastle United are lining up the €60m (more than £50m) capture of Hoffenheim striker Joelinton.
Whether this story has legs remains to be seen, especially as Mike Ashley has been notoriously tight with the transfer kitty he offers Rafa Benitez.
But nonetheless, Joelinton would be an interesting target for the Magpies to consider.
The Brazilian forward is enjoying reasonable success this season, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in 28 games.
But Joelinton is not even Hoffenheim’s top performing attacker; in fact, he is joint-third in the club’s top scorer list in the Bundesliga.

With six Bundesliga goals to his name, Joelinton has as many league strikes as Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson, who is on loan at Hoffenheim.
Ishak Belfodil has scored seven goals despite starting 11 less games than Joelinton, while Andrej Kramaric – formerly of Leicester City – is the leading scorer with nine.
Joelinton is a promising player, who has adapted well to life in Europe since his 2015 move from Brazil.
But the 22-year-old’s goal tally does not suggest that Newcastle should be considering a record transfer for him in the summer.
