Report: Xavi meets with Tottenham target Franck Kessie to discuss future
Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of Franck Kessie, that Xavi has now met with the player and told him that he is not leaving Barcelona in January.
Kessie has not had the easiest time at Barca. He arrived at Camp Nou off the back of helping AC Milan win the Scudetto. However, he has only gone on to make two starts in La Liga, with a further five appearances coming from the bench.
It appeared that his stay in Catalonia could be brief. reported on Tuesday that Tottenham were the favourites to sign Kessie and had already been in contact with Barca about a deal.

Inter Milan and Napoli were ready meanwhile, to hand him a route back to Italy. But it was Spurs who were leading the charge to secure a deal.
However, it seems that any hope of a deal in January has now been dashed.
, Xavi has now spoken with Kessie to reassure him about his future. The Barcelona staff remain confident that the Ivorian is going to prove to be a brilliant signing for the club. And thus, he will not be allowed to leave next month.
Barcelona do need to move a player off their wage bill in January. But AS suggests that the player likely to move on is Memphis Depay, rather than Kessie.
Obviously, the news may come as a disappointment to Antonio Conte. The report earlier this week noted that he knows the player extremely well.
He has been labelled an ‘‘ player. And he could have made a real difference for Spurs in the second-half of the campaign.
Certainly, plenty of sides will be monitoring his minutes once the domestic season resumes in case there is reason for a change of heart ahead of the summer.
