It looked to be something of a risk from Manuel Pellegrini’s men to let Hernandez go. His record with the Irons was not outstanding. But he had already scored once this term, and his departure left West Ham with just Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti as natural strikers within the first-team.

But it was another player on the club’s books who helped influence the decision to sell. that Silva is so highly-rated by the Hammers that they were more convinced about the merits of selling Hernandez.

The report notes that the Irons feel that the Portuguese is good enough to replace Hernandez in the future.

TBR’s View

It is a big claim to back Silva to replace Hernandez at some stage. He has only made one Premier League appearance and has struggled with injury for some time.

Hernandez has a hugely impressive record from his time in England. It will be interesting to see therefore, whether Silva does live up to expectations when he does get a chance in the senior side.

Pellegrini however, will be hoping that he will not be needed for some time with Haller making an incredibly bright start to life with the Hammers.
