Report: Wolves manager Bruno Lage wants free agent at Molineux, without a club since January’s Atletico exit

that Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage wants to sign free agent Diego Costa. The experienced striker has been without a club since the January window and has numerous offers. Wolves, though, want to bring him back to England.

Costa, 32, was released by Atletico Madrid in January after the two agreed to end his contract. The two-time Premier League winner scored two goals in seven games before his release during 2020-21. He has remained without a club since his exit from Diego Simeone’s side.

The 24-time Spain international has plenty of offers. He apparently wants to play in Brazil with offers from Sao Paulo, Palmeiras and Atletico-MG. Benfica, Besiktas and Al-Nassr have also made bids, but new Wolves boss Lage wants him back in England. He is likely to want a huge contract.

Costa would be a sensational signing for Wolves

Wolves need a striker. Willian Jose has returned to Real Sociedad. Raul Jimenez remains on his road to recovery – but he might not be the same player that suffered the injury initially. Fabio Silva is still incredibly young and needs a mentor. Step forward, Costa.

Bringing Costa in on a 12-month deal would be perfect for Wolves. It would give them a good enough replacement for Jimenez, at least until Jimenez is back to his best – but also a player that Silva can learn from.
