Report: Wolves considering bid for Palace striker Christian Benteke

Wolves are interested in a surprise move for Christian Benteke with Bruno Lage looking to strengthen his striker options this summer, .

Wolves were amongst the lowest scorers in the Premier League last year. In fact, only the three relegated teams found the back of the net less often than Lage’s side.

Unsurprisingly, they are keen to sign a new striker this summer. And one of the names on their list is Palace star Benteke, .

The Eagles are open to letting the Belgian leave in this window. He has one year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

The 31-year-old has had a mixed time since his £27 million move to Palace. He has reached double figures for Premier League goals on two occasions, and been described as a ‘‘ striker. However, he only scored four times in the top-flight last year.

In total, he has 35 goals in 162 league games for Palace. So he has hardly been the most prolific since his move from Liverpool.

Wolves eyeing Christian Benteke deal

You would imagine that there will be plenty of Wolves fans feeling underwhelmed about the links with Benteke. His stock has fallen quite a bit since he really impressed during his time at Aston Villa.

Much may depend on how much Palace want for Benteke. Obviously, it will not be the highest figure given his contract situation and his lack of goals last season.

But Wolves could probably do with a new marquee forward. Raul Jimenez only scored six times last season.

Benteke is not that marquee name. So it may not be the most exciting rumour Wolves fans have come across this summer.
