Report: What Gerrard has already told key Villa players in private about where he wants to finish this season
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has told some of his key players that he wants to finish seventh this season.
The 2022/23 campaign will be Gerrard’s first full term as Villa boss, and the target is becoming the ‘best of the rest’.
The say that ambition is shared between everyone at the club, with disappointment about how last season petered out.
Villa have done plenty of early transfer business and Gerrard now has a pre-season to further mould the squad to his will.

Gerrard targeting seventh with Villa
The report says that Villa officials have long since had the goal of becoming the team most likely to challenge the ‘Big Six’, who were last season’s top six.
Gerrard has already got that message across to some key players; finishing in the top seven is the aim now.
Those above him hope this is the year Villa make serious progress and this is the plainest sailing a Villa summer has been in a few years.

Villa do a lot of things right but the way last season ended was nothing to write home about and it is clear improvement is needed.
They can battle for that seventh spot, and all of their rivals have potential factors which will infringe on their challenge next term.
It is up to Villa to make a fast start and make themselves contenders for that top seven, and they can take stock somewhat when the season pauses for the World Cup.
