Throwing everything forward
Leeds were beaten 2-1 by West Ham at the weekend in what was heartbreaking circumstances.
The Whites had competed well for much of the contest, but were undone in the final minutes when Michail Antonio crashed the ball home on the half-volley.
Leeds then had to find a way to respond and Bielsa’s actions really showed just how desperate he was to turn things around.
Bielsa’s side’s are always famed for their attractive style of play, which promotes aesthetically pleasing principles.
But Leeds threw away their usual plans and Bielsa urged Cresswell to go forward and act as a target-man instead.
The youngster is talented in the air, and Leeds clearly wanted his presence to trouble the West Ham backline during injury time.
However, they were unable to find a route back into the game.
Leeds couldn’t create an opening after falling behind, as they slipped to another defeat.
Poor start
Bielsa’s side still have not found their first win of the season, after what has been a surprisingly poor start.
Cresswell did at least do his chances of starting more regularly no harm after his showing against West Ham.
The teenager was drafted into Leeds’ team following an injury crisis, but he showed no signs of nerves and proved he could perform a job at the very top level.
Cresswell may well now keep his place for Leeds’ next game, although he is set to be stationed back in his more familiar position in defence, rather than as an auxiliary target-man next weekend.
