While the 22-year-old was not always able to make a major impact for Arteta’s men, he certainly showed glimpses of his full potential.

Unsurprisingly, Arteta has already expressed a desire to hold onto the Norwegian beyond this season.

For those hoping to see Odegaard return to North London, Zinedine Zidane’s departure would have been a real disappointment.

Previous reports suggested that Arsenal’s hopes would have been boosted had Zidane stayed.

And unfortunately, it does indeed appear that Odegaard will benefit from the change of manager in the Spanish capital.

, Ancelotti has spoken to the attacking midfielder about staying next season. It is claimed that he fully trusts the youngster.

Arsenal missing out on Odegaard would be a shame for Arteta

There may be some Arsenal fans who will not be overly disappointed at the prospect of Odegaard not returning.

While there were flashes of brilliance, his form did dip at times. But he ended the campaign on a high.

It is a massive summer and season ahead for Arteta. He is yet to really prove that he is the right man to take the Gunners forward.

So having someone like Odegaard in the ranks would have been a big help.

He is one of those players who can create a moment of magic from little. And while Arsenal have other players capable of similar, it does seem that they need a few more to get themselves back up the table.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, Arteta will have to look elsewhere for them this summer following Ancelotti’s decision.
