Report: West Ham wanted to sign 25-year-old centre-back who’s been a rock in the Championship this season

West Ham wanted Joe Worrall this summer but Nottingham Forest’s promotion seems to have ended their hopes of a deal.

The report David Moyes’ interest in the 25-year-old as the Hammers try to get a deal done for Nayef Aguerd.

The inference in the report was that Worrall will be staying put now that he is a Premier League player at the City Ground.

Worrall was part of the Forest defence which kept a clean sheet in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Wembley.

West Ham wanted Worrall

The report reads: “West Ham’s interest in Aguerd will raise doubts over Issa Diop’s future.

The 25-year-old Frenchman was inconsistent last season and he could be available.

However, the uncertainty over Ogbonna means Moyes could choose to have five centre-backs.

West Ham, who were also interested in Joe Worrall before Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the Premier League, face another draining campaign after qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

It seems Moyes and West Ham have moved onto Aguerd now that Forest have got up and the club will come up against Worrall next season.

Worrall could have been a good signing, making the leap like Jarrod Bowen did after coming to the Hammers from the Championship.

He will now be looking to translate his second tier form to the big time unless anything changes, with West Ham looking to flesh out their squad ahead of another season in Europe.
