Report: West Ham want Wout Weghorst; battling Mourinho

There are several issues to address in the transfer market ahead of the next campaign. And one area West Ham must strengthen is up front.

They had 15 different goalscorers this term. However, their top scorers finished with just 10 strikes each.

And it seems that they are looking at a player with double that amount.

, they want Weghorst. The 28-year-old scored 20 times in the Bundesliga this season.

In fact, he has failed to score fewer than 16 goals in a single league campaign in each of the last five years.

Unsurprisingly therefore, West Ham are not the only team in the running. Calciomercato notes that Jose Mourinho is keen to take him to Roma.

Weghorst has been a consistent goalscorer over the last few years. He has 25 in all competitions this season.

Nevertheless, much will surely depend on what sort of fee Wolfsburg may want for the forward.

He turns 29 in August. So he may not have too long left at the peak of his powers. And of course, he is yet to play in the Premier League.

Having said that, the last deal West Ham completed for a 28-year-old signing turned out quite well.
