Report: West Ham want to sign Sebastien Haller

According to , West Ham United are in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a £40 million deal for Sebastien Haller. The Irons are pursuing the striker having failed to sign Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo.

Haller was in impressive form last season. The 25-year-old struck 15 goals and provided nine assists in 29 Bundesliga outings. The No. 9 still has plenty of potential for improvement too and possesses the physical and technical qualities needed to shine in the Premier League.

The Hammers certainly need a new centre-forward to lead the line next season. Following Marko Arnautovic’s recent departure, there is a vacancy for a new goalscorer in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.

Haller would be a decent signing, but at £40 million the East London outfit are in danger of overpaying. Compared to recent acquisitions such as Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals, Haller may be considered a somewhat underwhelming arrival.

Certainly, Gomez would have been the preferable and wiser investment of the two. The Uruguayan is younger than Haller and is already operating at a similar level.

Given Arnautovic’s exit though, the Hammers may be pressed into meeting Eintracht Frankfurt’s valuation of Haller. All things considered, the Irons could do far worse than signing the Frenchman.
