Report: West Ham ready to offer £5m to loan Arsenal defender Rob Holding

West Ham are reportedly ready to make a move to try sign defender Rob Holding on loan from London rivals Arsenal.

, the Hammers are prepared to offer £5million to take the centre-back on a season-long loan.

The report explains that manager David Moyes wants to sign a new defender in this current transfer window and the club could afford a loan for him, before possibly looking to sign him the following year.

It is claimed that Arsenal could potentially allow their 24-year-old to exit on loan due to their numerous options in the heart of defence.

With injuries currently plaguing the Arsenal squad, Holding has played the opening two games of the season and impressed in back-to-back wins.

Mikel Arteta’s team beat Liverpool in the FA Community Shield in the season curtain-raiser and followed that up by beating Fulham 3-0 over the weekend in the first game of the league season.

Meanwhile, West Ham lost 2-0 at home to Newcastle United in their opening match and there is a lot of negativity currently surrounding the London side.

TBR’s View:

Holding, who earns £25,000-a-week (), has looked extremely dependable as part of a back three recently for Arsenal and it would be somewhat of a surprise if he’s allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium.

He’s a ball-playing centre-back that is comfortable at the back and a real leader for his age, plus he’s not afraid to put his body on the line and is a physical presence too.

West Ham need a summer signing to lift the mood and Holding would be an impressive addition, albeit £5million for a season loan does seem a steep price.
