Report: West Ham-linked star ‘a lot better’ than some England players will reject summer transfer
James Tarkowski will ignore interest from West Ham United and see out the final year of his contract at Burnley next season, per the .
The centre-half will enter the last 12-months of his deal in July and has long stated he will not sign new terms. Tarkowski told in November that he felt their offers had been ‘nowhere near’ where he expected.
West Ham attempted to capitalise on Tarkowski’s situation with a string of bids in the last summer transfer window. But Burnley rejected their offers worth up to £31m as they held out for a £50m fee, according to .

Yet Burnley refusing to lower their valuation last year could now cost them dearly. As Tarkowski intends to see out the final 12-months of his contract and leave the club for free next summer.
The 28-year-old is keen to hold out on securing a move in order to enjoy the luxury of free agency. Tarkowski should be able to land more lucrative terms and a significant signing on bonus in the event of a free transfer next summer.
West Ham have retained their interest in a deal for Tarkowski but have been joined by Wolverhampton Wanderers, report. Neither seem like to get their man, however, and will be forced to seek alternative targets.
TBR’s view: Tarkowski blow not that bad for West Ham
Tarkowski refusing to leave Burnley this summer to secure a free transfer next year will be a blow for West Ham. The centre-half has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League over his five years at Turf Moor.
His former Brentford teammate and Birmingham captain Harlee Dean also told in January: ‘I think he’s a lot better than a lot of the players with England now. He just doesn’t get a look-in because he plays for Burnley.’
West Ham may have offered Tarkowski the chance to regain a place in Gareth Southgate’s fold. Declan Rice is a regular for England after shining with the Irons, while Jesse Lingard made his international return after thriving on loan.
But Tarkowski opting to see out his Burnley contract will not be that bad of a blow for West Ham. Reports have already suggested David Moyes cooled his interest and is prioritising other targets, yet could be one to sign him for free.
