Report: West Ham interested in re-signing Dimitri Payet

West Ham United are being linked with a sensational move to re-sign former winger Dimitri Payet this January.

(), the relegation-threatened Irons are considering moving for the 32-year-old as they attempt to strengthen ahead of a potential dogfight come the end of the season.

Payet spent just one-and-a-half seasons at the London Stadium, but quickly established himself as one of the most entertaining players ever to pull on the claret shirt.

Branded ‘top class’ at the time by then-manager Slaven Bilic (), the French star was absolutely brilliant for the Hammers during the 2015/16 season, and was voted into the PFA Team of Season for his contributions.

He is not particularly popular though in the eyes of some West Ham supporters for the way in which he left the club midway through the 2016/17 season.

It was reported Payet had refused to play for the club in a bid to engineer a move back to Marseille – West Ham eventually cashed in for £25 million ().

Apparently, the financially troubled Marseille would consider selling for just £12.5 million.

TBR’s view – Payet could keep West Ham up

Some supporters would be opposed to such a transfer, but Payet has the quality to keep West Ham in the Premier League.

Despite his advancing years, he has been playing every game he’s been available for for Marseille in 2019/20, contributing eight goals and four assists so far.

Payet never really relied on pace during his time in English football, so there’d be chance he could be similarly brilliant if remarkably he re-signed for the club this month.
