Report: West Ham have been joined by Wolves in the race to sign Burnley defender
on Tuesday morning that West Ham United have been joined by Wolves in the race to sign Burnley and England defender James Tarkowski. The Hammers tried to sign Tarkowski last summer, but a move fell through due to his price tag.
Now, 28-year-old Tarkowski could be sold for a cheaper figure. That is because the two-time England international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Turf Moor. If Burnley want to bring in a fee for their star centre-back, then they will need to cash in this summer.
, Tarkowski is Burnley’s highest earner – pocketing around £50,000 a week. But at either West Ham or Wolves, that kind of wage would be easily afforded. However, it remains to be seen how much Burnley are willing to cash in on the powerful defender.

Wolves or West Ham – which is best for Burnley defender Tarkowski?
West Ham need defenders. As they embark on a Europa League campaign, they need cover all over the park. Tarkowski would be first choice at the London Stadium – partnering either Angelo Ogbonna or Craig Dawson. Issa Diop is also an option, and it gives them the option of playing three.
Wolves could do with him too. But does Tarkowski have the pace to play on the side of a three-man defence? Probably not, but Conor Coady is easily the club’s first-choice in the middle of a back three. It depends whether Bruno Lage wants to play three at the back – or just two.
