Report: West Ham considering move for Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri

that Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri is a target for West Ham United this summer as David Moyes looks to bring in quality on the left side of the Hammers defence.

Palmieri, 26, has struggled since he joined Chelsea from Roma for a fee believed to be in the region of £17.5million (). The Brazil-born Italy international has managed just 55 appearances in all competitions in two and a half seasons at Chelsea.

Chelsea have completed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City while also boasting the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as cover. It leaves Emerson completely out in the cold in terms of first-team football.

Chelsea remain interested in bringing Declan Rice back to Stamford Bridge after he left the club as a youth player to join West Ham, and Palmieri could be used in a swap deal. The report states that Moyes has an interest in Palmieri.

TBR’s view – Palmieri needs game time

At West Ham, would he get that? Is he good enough to start above Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku? The latter impressed in the Carabao Cup against Charlton on Tuesday night – but his time at West Ham has largely been a failure.

Cresswell is far from the player that saw him earn England caps. West Ham need a left-back and while Emerson struggled at Chelsea, it must be remembered that he is still only 26 and has seven Italy caps. Given game time, he could shine.
