Report: West Brom eyeing 23-year-old who’s ‘so good off the ball’; two could be sold to help finance move

West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce is reportedly interested in Hamza Choudhury and could help finance the move by listening to offers for Baggies duo Charlie Austin and Kamil Grosicki.

With winger Robert Snodgrass set to join the Baggies – pending a medical – and goalkeeper Andy Lonergan also to arrive at The Hawthorns, Allardyce is wasting no time in bolstering his ranks as the relegation battle hots up.

West Brom are reportedly eager to snap up a defensive midfielder as well, and Leicester’s Choudhury is seemingly available.

The 23-year-old has made 10 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, but only two of those have been in the Premier League, with the vast majority having come in the Europa League.

The reported on 2 January that the Baggies, plus Southampton and Newcastle, have been offered the chance to sign Choudhury on loan.

Now, has claimed that the former England Under-21 international is being targeted by Allardyce, though with the Baggies having limited funds, money could be raised by listening to offers for Austin and Grosicki.

TBR View:

Choudhury burst onto the main stage during the 2018-19 season with outstanding performances against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

He has struggled for game time this season, so a move away makes sense, though West Brom can only add one more domestic loan as they have Conor Gallagher signed for the season from Chelsea.

Choudhury would certainly be worth it though, a talented Premier League-quality ace who, according to Harvey Barnes, is a “great player to have on the pitch” and one of the best defensive midfielders around.

“He is a great player to have on the pitch,” he told the in 2019. “I don’t think there are many players like him that are as good as him at the other side of the game.

“We have got a lot of quality but it helps having a player like that who is so good off the ball. I think in the modern game, all the creative players have to be able to do the other side of the game.”
