Report: West Brom close to signing Romaine Sawyers

According to , West Brom have agreed a fee in the region of £3 million with Brentford to sign Romaine Sawyers. The 27-year-old midfielder looks set for a return to the Hawthorns, where he’ll become Slaven Bilic’s fifth arrival of the summer.

The move will bring an end to Sawyers’ time with Brentford, having arrived at Griffin Park in 2016. The No. 19 featured 42 times in the Championship for the Bees last season, registering seven assists. However, he failed to find the back of the net all season.

Sawyers’ record in front of goal has never been spectacular. In 135 appearances for Brentford he has managed just eight goals. If he were to improve his finishing and become more prolific then Sawyers would be quite the player.

He is, however, a creative force, and will set up plenty of chances for his teammates in Bilic’s side. Sawyers is a playmaker who will bring craft and guile to the final third, and will also add some much-needed strength in depth to the Baggies’ squad.

Sawyers may also feel that he has unfinished business at the Hawthorns. The Birmingham-born ace came through the West Brom academy. However, he never made a first team appearance for the club. He will now be desperate to return and show the Baggies faithful just what he can do.
