Report: West Brom boss Sam Allardyce to let 27-year-old leave this month

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Jonathan Bond is set to leave The Hawthorns this month, according to the .

The Baggies are reported to have signed veteran stopper Andy Lonergan, though Joseph Masi on Twitter on Thursday night that the deal was close but not yet done.

This report led to some West Brom fans fearing over the future of the excellent Sam Johnstone, who has been with the likes of Leeds and Brighton in recent weeks.

However, the Express & Star claims that Lonergan will provide back-up to Johnstone, and in terms of the current back-up keepers, Bond is the one expected to leave this month.

The 27-year-old joined West Brom on a free transfer in 2018 after leaving Reading, making competitive appearances for the Baggies, and his .

Veteran goalkeepers have been snapped up by some of the biggest Premier League sides in recent years not only as reliable back-up but also to provide experience and wisdom in the dressing room and on the training ground.

It looks as though Allardyce is doing the same thing here with Lonergan’s seemingly imminent arrival, whilst also letting Bond, a young goalkeeper, move on in search of first-team football.
