Report: West Brom and Aston Villa want Neal Maupay

According to the , West Brom want to sign Neal Maupay this summer. However, the Baggies face competition from bitter rivals Aston Villa for the Brentford striker’s signature. The Villans are thought to currently be leading the race to land the Frenchman, along with fellow newly-promoted Premier League outfit Sheffield United.

It’s no surprise that Maupay is in such high demand. The 22-year-old was in scintillating form last season. The No. 9 racked up 25 goals and eight assists for the Bees over the course of the Championship campaign.

The France under-21 international is certainly ready to make the step up to the top flight and to test himself at the highest level of English football. A switch to Bramall Lane offers him that chance. As does a move to Villa Park, which would also see him reunite with former Brentford boss Dean Smith.

For that reason, Aston Villa is likely to be Maupay’s preferred destination. However, West Brom should not give up on trying to bring him to the Hawthorns.

Slaven Bilic could do with bolstering his squad’s firepower this summer, and Maupay has the capacity to fire his side to promotion. The Baggies should go all out to beat off the top flight competition and sign Maupay themselves.
