Report: Werder Bremen enter the race for Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic

According to reports in Germany, a new club has entered the race for Marko Grujic. Werder Bremen have opened talks with Liverpool over the possibility of signing Grujic, .

Grujic spent the season on loan at Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga. And his performances in the German top-flight have convinced Werder Bremen to enter the race.

Both teams finished in mid-table last season; Bremen came 8th and Berlin finished 11th. After battling in the league, these two sides could now be set for a transfer battle.

Grujic’s future is unclear. He is yet to learn whether Jurgen Klopp will give him a chance to impress next season. Since his 2016 move to Merseyside, the Serbia international has only played 14 first-team games for the Reds.

If the 23-year-old is not given first-team assurances, he might choose to leave this summer. After loan spells with Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin, Grujic could be set for another temporary stint or even a permanent exit.

Werder Bremen wanted Grujic last summer. But now they have opened talks over a potential move this summer. Talks are far from resolved and this looks like a transfer saga in the making.

Liverpool’s primary focus will be on Saturday’s Champions League final with Tottenham Hotspur. But once that game is over, Klopp needs to start thinking about next season with Grujic’s future among his list of worries.
