Report: Wayne Rooney in four-way chase to sign Tottenham man on loan

Wayne Rooney’s Derby County want to raid Tottenham for Jack Clarke – though he faces competition from three Championship sides.

Clarke, 20, joined Tottenham in the summer of 2019 from Leeds United for a fee of £10million. He was the first signed, after a long stint without arrivals.

But since his move more than two years ago, he has played just four senior games for Tottenham. It cames after clocking up 25 Leeds appearances.

He immediately returned to Leeds on loan after the move, but only played three times in the first half of the 2020-21 campaign.

Subsequent loans have come in the form of spells at QPR and Stoke, but he has struggled. This season, he has remained at Tottenham.

But instead of breaking into the first team, he has been playing for the 23’s – laying on five assists in 13 games and scoring once. But he needs a loan.

Rooney eyes Tottenham star Clarke: Winger needs regular game time

During the three loan spells Clarke has endured while at Spurs, he has not been first choice. He has been getting games here and there.

But not regularly. He needs a shot of confidence in the form of a manager playing him week in, week out. At Derby, he might get that under Rooney.

The Rams gaffer likes to use younger players and Clarke might benefit. Barnsley, Luton and Millwall are also keen. The latter might be on pole.

Of course, Troy Parrott has gone on loan to Millwall – with the Lions situated in the capital. January awaits for £31k-a-week () Clarke.
