Report: Villa could replace Gerrard with manager who reportedly had doubts over signing Lucas Digne in January

Aston Villa would consider an approach for Thomas Tuchel if they decide to replace Steven Gerrard as manager.

The report that Villa would want to make an ambitious step up if they opt to make a change in their dugout.

Mauricio Pochettino is under consideration but Villa would want to sound out Tuchel as well as Unai Emery in any managerial search.

Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 but was sacked earlier this season after overseeing the most lavish summer transfer window in Premier League history.

Villa would consider Tuchel

The report says that Villa would be willing to wait for Pochettino if he had any interest in the job and he seems to be the man they really want.

The report also claims that Tuchel would be interested in the England job if it became available after the World Cup, so the German may hold on for that.

It seemed Tuchel only wanted Digne on loan as injury cover for England left-back Ben Chilwell, who is now back fit and playing again.

In the summer, Tuchel signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton in a big-money deal, and Graham Potter is now trying to get them both into the same team.

Tuchel and Digne could be united at Villa Park but it seems plenty would have to happen to get to that point as it stands.
