Report: Victor Orta flew out to try and sign ‘special’ player for Leeds but his club will now not sell

Leeds United were one of the clubs looking to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven but the Dutch side are unwilling to sell.

The claim that former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy wants to keep the forward at the club beyond the deadline.

Southampton were also seriously looking into signing the Dutchman, and had an offer turned down for him earlier this week.

Victor Orta flew out to the Netherlands to try and do the deal, but he will now be coming back empty-handed after PSV’s decision.

PSV will not sell Gakpo to Leeds

Leeds suffered an injury blow to Rodrigo in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Tuesday and that had perhaps accelerated their pursuit of Gakpo.

That has now made it clear that they are looking at getting a new forward through the door if they are of the right quality to help the side.

It remains to be seen who they turn their attention to in the light of this blow, which comes after Gakpo scored a hat-trick for PSV against FC Volendam last night.

PSV boss van Nistelrooy has spoken about Gakpo recently, : “There have been rumours about him since the beginning of the season almost eight weeks ago, and we have not seen Cody [Gakpo] changing his behaviour up to now.

“He is not distracted, he is focused on the games he has to play.

“For a young guy like him it is special to see that attitude.”
