Report: Under-23 players were actually looking better than 26-year-old in Everton training last season

Dele Alli has left Everton after a number of months at the club to try and revive his career at Turkish club Besiktas.

Dele joined from Tottenham in January but was unable to get his form back and has now moved on again.

The claim that some of the Toffees’ Under-23 players were actually performing better in training than Dele last season.

They say that those prospects were putting forward a better case to be included in Frank Lampard’s side than the 26-year-old.

One theme of the report is that Dele just could not get the consistency in his game that Lampard wanted to see from him.

Lampard was of course famously consistent and driven throughout his playing days, most notably with Chelsea and England.

It might have been thought that playing under one of the Premier League’s best ever central midfielders could help get the best from Dele.

That did not prove to be the case so now he is moving to Turkey to try and get his career back on track.

The report also touches on the internal debate at Everton over whether Dele was worth signing.

Could the potential be unlocked or was he on an irreversible downward trend? That is the question Besiktas have to wrestle with now, as Everton have now got away without paying £10 million to Spurs because he did not make 20 appearances in the famous blue shirt.
