Report: Tottenham want long-term Mourinho target Alex Sandro, Serge Aurier swap mooted
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly turning their attention to Alex Sandro in their hunt of an appropriate left-back solution this summer.
that the Brazilian is a leading candidate for Jose Mourinho in his hunt for a Danny Rose replacement.
that Tottenham are willing to offer Serge Aurier as part of any deal whilst also offering an undisclosed sum of money to secure Sandro’s signature.
It is then suggested that Spurs will target Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne or PSG’s soon-to-be free agent Thomas Meunier to replace Aurier.
Sandro would undoubtedly be a high-calibre replacement for Rose and Tottenham are right to have him on their wishlist this summer.
It would also see Mourinho get his hands on an apparent long-term target.
in the summer of 2018, Sandro was earmarked as Mourinho’s number one target to replace Luke Shaw at left-back. However, the report claims that Mourinho had to scale back his interest in the player because of ‘budgetary constraints’.
that United would need to pay over £50 million for the player and with United needing strengthening in other areas, the move for Sandro was reportedly abandoned.
It remains to be seen whether Sandro carries a similar price-tag now but it would appear unlikely. The Brazilian is now 29-year-old and his performances over the past two seasons have not been at the high standards he set in 2017-18.
Tottenham would still have to expect to pay a big amount on top of Aurier if they wanted to make this deal happen.
Considering his age and the club’s apparently reduced transfer budget, it seems an unlikely move. However, Mourinho will undoubtedly be pushing for it.
