Report: Tottenham want Bundesliga defender, willing to pay £32m
that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter, but are well short of the Bundesliga side’s asking price.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years, with the centre-back already boasting a World Cup winners’ medal and more than 100 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
Ginter was limited to just 27 Bundesliga appearances last season with a couple of injuries keeping him out of the other seven outings. But he helped Gladbach keep nine clean sheets, and even scored two goals.
It is believed that Tottenham are willing to splash as much as £32million on the Germany international, who can play at centre-back or on the right side of the defence. But Gladbach want as much as £55million.

TBR’s view – Ginter a top player, but £55m way too much
Juan Foyth has been used on the right side of the defence of late and could be used as cover for Kieran Trippier, while Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters are also options. Bringing in Ginter would ease the woes at the back.
He would give Mauricio Pochettino another option at the back. An excellent player, Ginter is capable of playing at Champions League level and is more than adept with the ball at his feet. But £55million is simply too much.
If Spurs can reach an agreement for a fee between £40million and £45million, then that would be a fair sum. Any more than that, and they would be paying over the odds.
