Report: Tottenham trying to sign Carlos Vinicius on loan, Mourinho wanted him last month
Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing the signing of Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius, ending the club’s long pursuit to add some competition for Harry Kane.
, the club has agreed to take the 25-year-old hotshot on loan and will hold an option to purchase him next summer for a fee of £36.3 million.
Spurs had tried to raid Benfica for the talisman earlier in the summer but their asking price was closer to £50 million, with Tottenham baulking at the idea of paying such an amount.
Benfica were surprisingly dumped out of the Champions League by Greek outfit PAOK last month. Their exit from European football’s elite club competition has now led to the Portuguese giants changing their stance.
Vinicius was a man on a mission last season as he scored 24 goals and registered 13 assists during a campaign spent bang in the form of his life.
The Brazil-born striker signed for Benfica in 2019 from Napoli. He never made an appearance for the Italian side, spending time on loan with Rio Ave and Monaco.
It’s, without doubt, his form in Liga NOS that has alerted Tottenham to his availability, however, and he could become a fan favourite very quickly in North London.

He is a proven goalscorer and a player who can bring some real quality to the team when things perhaps aren’t quite working for Kane.
