Report: Tottenham tracking Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence, that Jose Mourinho has been tracking the teenager since 2018.
Spence has only made a handful of first-team appearances for Boro. But it appears that he has already made quite an impression on Mourinho.

The London Evening Standard reports that the Spurs boss has been keeping an eye on the 19-year-old since he left Fulham. The Portuguese was initially told about the full-back by his son, who was also on the Cottagers’ books at the time.
that Mourinho made a point of congratulating Spence on his performance after Tottenham’s draw with Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Unsurprisingly, Jonathan Woodgate does not want to lose the youngster. The report notes that Boro want to tie Spence down to a new five-year deal. It is noted that talks are ongoing, but an agreement is yet to be reached.
TBR View – Could Spence ultimately end Tottenham’s right-back woes?
Right-back has arguably been a problematic position for Spurs since the start of the 2018/19 season. Kieran Trippier has now left, and Serge Aurier’s form has been inconsistent.
It is perhaps telling that Kyle Walker-Peters has not come into the side on a regular basis. The London Evening Standard reports that he is set to join Crystal Palace on loan.
Signing Spence may be something of a gamble. He has only made nine first-team appearances during his career.
But the signs are extremely positive. And Mourinho had clearly been aware of Spence’s potential for a long time before his superb gesture at the weekend.
