Report: Tottenham set to lose to league leaders in pursuit of World Cup finalist

that Bayern Munich are set to win the race to sign Ivan Perisic on a permanent basis from Inter Milan – despite a late attempt from Tottenham Hotspur to lure him to north London.

Perisic, 31, has had a hand in 14 goals during his Bayern loan spell. The 2018 World Cup finalist has scored six goals and created eight more during 29 matches, as Bayern won the Bundesliga on Tuesday night.

previously claimed that Tottenham were keen – with Bayern willing to pay just £9million, half of the permanent clause in his loan. Inter were willing to accept offers of just £13.5million.

Now, an agreement has been found and Perisic will play for Bayern next season and sign for the new German champions on a permanent basis – despite an offer from Tottenham ‘in the last few hours’.

TBR’s view – If Lamela leaves, Perisic would have been ideal

But with the Argentina international still on the books at Spurs and seemingly desperate to remain at the north London club, a failed bid for Perisic is not the end of the world.

Erik Lamela has been linked with the exit door at Spurs and if Jose Mourinho is to bring in some cash for new signings, he will need to sell a number of fringe players. Serge Aurier, Eric Dier and others are in the same boat.

Perisic is in a similar mould to Lamela – hard working with an eye for goal and can play on either flank – but Tottenham will now have to look elsewhere.
