Report: Tottenham set to complete signing of 18-year-old wonderkid

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Pape Sarr from Metz, has confirmed on Twitter. He says the fee will be higher than the £8 million originally reported.

There is a caveat to the deal. Tottenham are preparing to let Sarr stay at Metz on loan until next summer in a bid to get him more first-team football under his belt.

The 18-year-old has made just 28 first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. He has started all three of the team’s games this season and registered an assist against Reims on Sunday.

Sarr typically operates as a central midfielder but can also showcase his talents in the No.10 role behind a striker.

This deal is clearly one that Tottenham want to do for the future. Allowing him to stay at Metz on loan will ensure he has a season playing regular football.

Tottenham haven’t really had a busy summer. Cristian Romero has joined, whilst Pierluigi Gollini has checked in as a backup goalkeeper.

Sarr has made the step-up to international football in recent times. He now has two caps to his name for the Senegal national team and looks set for a bright future.

Tottenham could land shrewd signing in Sarr

This should be a signing to delight the club’s army of supporters. They’ll watch Sarr’s progress with intrigue this season ahead of him returning for pre-season training ahead of the next campaign.

Sarr is a youngster with bags of potential. He loves to get on the ball, likes to take players on and is also capable of chipping in with goal contributions.

Tottenham need to start planning for the future in their midfield ranks and Sarr looks like becoming a useful Spurs prospect.
