Report: Tottenham miss deadline to land France forward at bargain price
Tottenham might have been handed a small blow in their quest to sign Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.
recently claimed that the release clause in Thuram’s contract has now expired. It stood at £26 million but interested parties have now missed the boat.
The report does offer a glimmer of hope, however. It suggests that he could still leave this summer, with Tottenham in the mix for his signature.

Thuram is currently at Euro 2020 with France. He hasn’t featured yet though during the nation’s first two games against Germany and Hungary.
Monchengladbach will now likely demand a much higher transfer fee. With Spurs only in the Europa Conference League next year, it remains to be seen whether they’ll need to tighten their belts.
Of course Spurs do have more pressing concerns. At this stage, no manager has been appointed and Daniel Levy must sort that situation quickly.
Thuram enjoyed an amazing campaign during 2020/21. He fired 11 goals and claimed 12 assists from 40 appearances in the team.
He has been at Monchengladback since 2019 when he checked in from Guingamp.
Thuram is versatile and can operate on either flank or as centre-forward.
Spurs will almost certainly target better players for the final third during the summer.
Son Heung-min and Harry Kane have been scintillating but better options out wide and from the bench would definitely be helpful.
Teammate Denis Zakaria provided a glowing reference for Thuram back in November 2019, calling the player after a game against Roma in the Europa League.
Tottenham should still move for Thuram
At 23, the France international boasts bags of potential and despite that, he has a lot of first-team experience still.
Thuram has really shone at Monchengladbach and he will surely be a wanted man during the transfer window.

The forward could now be valued closer to but that would still represent a decent piece of business.
He earns just and even with a wage rise he’d still be a quality addition to the Tottenham ranks.
Thuram is an exciting player and he’d make for a strong start to the summer transfer window for the club.
