TBR View: Development is the way to go
In the current climate of Covid-19, there seems to be only one way to go with regards to building a squad and that’s developing young players. It’s a tactic that has been used by many of the top clubs around Europe, especially in England.
Despite all the transfer fees on various players, the centre of Manchester City’s team is Phil Foden, a talent who has made his way through the club’s academy. Arsenal have followed suit during these uncertain times with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich bought Alphonso Davies for a mere back in 2018 before the Canada international became a cornerstone of the German side’s defence.
Spurs themselves have benefitted greatly through youth development from their head coach with Pochettino having turned the likes of Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Danny Rose into recognised internationals and Champions League finalists.
It’s only right the north London giants look to carry on with the policy which became a fundamental principle of their former Argentine manager’s managerial style. Developing youth can work as has been shown by various clubs around the continent.
