Report: Tottenham look to raid Champions League side for key member of staff

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in luring Lyon’s head of recruitment Florian Maurice to north London ahead of what could be a very important transfer window for Spurs.

Maurice, 46, is a former France international that turned out for the likes of Lyon, Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain and other French clubs. He retired as a player in 2005, finishing his career with French side Chateauroux.

The report claims Tottenham have made an offer to lure the Frenchman to Spurs ahead of the summer, but the north London club are not the only side interested in Maurice. Indeed, other European sides have tabled bids to land Maurice.

Lyon legend Juninho has arrived at Lyon as a sporting director and that move has placed Maurice’s future in doubt – with a sporting director normally tasked with transfers. Boasting both a sporting director and a head of recruitment is unusual.

TBR’s view – Tottenham need a Maurice-like figure in transfer market

It promises to be a busy summer for Tottenham, and they need one. Jan Vertonghen is due to leave the north London club, while a number of fringe players such as Juan Foyth have been linked with an exit.

Harry Kane’s future remains up for debate, and even if the England skipper does remain, he needs back-up. Central midfield has been a problem area this season, while cover at right-back and left-back, and a replacement for Vertonghen are all needed.

Spurs need a man like Maurice at the helm.
