Report: Tottenham in talks to sign 23-year-old, deal could be done in 10 days
that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to win the race for South Korean colossus Kim Min-jae, amid reports that both Arsenal and Everton are also interested in the defender.
Kim, 23, has caught the eye after impressing in the Chinese Super League during the 2019 campaign for Beijing Guoan alongside Cedric Bakambu, Renato Augusto and under the guidance of ex-Lyon boss Bruno Genesio.
Nicknamed ‘the monster’ because of his 6ft 2in frame, Kim has been likened to Virgil van Dijk and already boasts 30 South Korea caps. Now, the latest reports claim Tottenham are closing in on a move to land the defender.
Spurs have tabled a bid of £11million to sign Kim, while Beijing Guoan want £15.5million. Both parties are confident a deal can be arranged, though, with a deal expected to go through before the new Chinese season on July 25.
Arsenal were rivalling Watford and FC Porto for the defender, while Everton, Southampton, RB Leipzig, Lazio and PSV want him. Tottenham are on pole, though.
TBR’s view – Tottenham move makes sense
Not only would Kim link up with his South Korea teammate and captain in Son Heung-min, but Spurs are also desperately in need of a central defender this summer as Jan Vertonghen is due to exit on a free.
The transfer fee also points towards Daniel Levy. Linked with some of Europe’s biggest defenders including Kalidou Koulibaly, a fee that will hardly exceed £15million is much more likely to be to Levy’s taste.
It is a move that seemingly suits all parties.
