Report: Tottenham in ‘concrete talks’ to sign Bayern Munich player

Tottenham Hotspur have already held ‘concrete talksto sign Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng this summer, with the experienced Germany defender out of contract in the summer and set to leave the Allianz Arena.

Boateng, 32, is set to see his contract end at the end of June after 356 appearances for Bayern Munich in which he has helped the Bundesliga league leaders win eight titles. A ninth is inches away, with Bayern five points clear and only six games to play.

The report states that a move to Borussia Dortmund, who have been linked is unlikely as he would have to take a big pay cut to move to the Westfalenstadion. Barcelona are also linked, but a move to the Nou Camp is also deemed as ‘unlikely

It is claimed that Spurs are interested and talks have been held to sign Boateng, as another defeat on Sunday this time to Manchester United once again highlighted the need for a defensive rebuild at the North London club.

TBR’s view Boateng would be a stunning addition for Spurs

The cons are certainly outweighed by the pros. At 32, and turning 33 in September, Boateng has certainly past his peak but what he still offers right now is enormous experience, a winning mentality and quality that eclipses what Spurs currently have.

He will cost a lot of money, but that money is saved given he will not cost a thing in terms of transfers. Landing Boateng on a two-year deal this summer can drastically improve Tottenham’s fortunes going forward under Jose Mourinho.
