Report: Tottenham held Thursday talks over possible exit for Spurs defender
that Tottenham Hotspur held talks with AC Milan on Thursday over a deal to sell Serge Aurier to the Italian side, despite the Ivorian playing for Spurs on Thursday night against KF Shkendija.
Aurier, 27, made his first appearance of the 2020-21 campaign on Thursday night and impressed on the right flank, playing a number of excellent crosses into the box. Certainly, Erik Lamela and Harry Kane should have scored from Aurier crosses.
However, the former Paris Saint-Germain defender has remained an unused substitute in both Premier League matches following the arrival of Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers. It leaves Aurier as back-up to the Irishman.
Aurier has been linked with AC Milan and Russian side Spartak Moscow but the latest report claims that Spurs chiefs – while in Milan to reportedly secure a deal for Inter’s Milan Skriniar – held talks with AC for the £70k-a-week () defender.

TBR’s view – Aurier’s Thursday display shows he is still a good option
But it is clear that Jose Mourinho prefers a right-back that is better defensively. Doherty is very solid as a right-back, but is also excellent going forward. While he might not be as good as Aurier in the final third, he is much better at the back.
Though Aurier would suit more-attacking sides, he does not suit Mourinho’s style and that is likely to push the right-back towards the exit door. While he is still a solid option for Spurs, it is hard to see Aurier remaining at Tottenham.
